EPD Teams to Travel to First-Annual Pacific Coast Invitational
Tuesday, May 24, 2011

The first-annual Pacific Coast Invitational (PCI), an Elite Player Development (EPD) showcase for 1998 Boys and Girls EPD teams will kick-off this weekend, Memorial Day May 27-30, 2011 at the Ventura College Sportsplex in Ventura, CA. In addition to being an EPD tournament, the PCI will serve as an official national identification event for U.S. Soccer.

In addition to Washington Youth Soccer, US Youth Soccer’s Cal North, Cal South and North Texas will bring two Boys and two Girls ’98 teams to the event, for a  total of 16 teams in attendance. The PCI will be a display of incredible competition, showcasing some of the most talented Under 13 players in the Nation. In addition to the matches, the event will feature special guest appearances and lectures on sports science issues.

“The Pacific Coast Invitational (PCI) is a breath of fresh air in terms of Elite Player Development tournaments. When working in collaboration with Cal South, Cal North, and North Texas, the main emphasis of this event was on exposing young players to competitive environments to showcase their abilities. The PCI is more than just a tournament, it is a training program that will focus on the modern needs of our future National Team Players. We believe that the PCI structure will create the needed environment for elite players to compete, be identified, and most importantly be educated”, Gary White, Washington Youth Soccer Technical Director.

Elite Player Development (EPD)

The Elite Player Development (EPD) program is an umbrella program combining all of our current development curriculums as well as additional opportunities from our soccer community.

In the past, Washington Youth Soccer’s Elite Player Development has focused on a single program structure.  Today, however, as a result of the advancements of our programming and our partnerships with US Soccer, Sounders FC, International Organizations and various universities, we have a multitude of programs, tournaments and identification events, available to participate in.  With the new EPD, our practitioners will strategically hand select the best development opportunities to create a complete package that best suites our players’ needs.

Each program that we currently run, including ODP, State Pool Training, etc. will still play an integral role in our EPD training program as each individual program provides an important component in our players’ development. The EPD program will ensure that the best avenues for the development of our Elite players here in Washington are created to provide the correct matriculation & education.

Through the EPD, we expect to develop more players who will have the technical and tactical skills combined with the creativity to compete at the highest levels.  Washington Youth Soccer’s / Sounders FC EPD program will develop hundreds of elite athletes across the state aged between 10 – 17 years old for both boys & girls from all sections of our community. Our objective is to develop a precise learning environment for the education and progress of each and every selected player.

The programs under the EPD umbrella include:

*   ODP Selected Events
    ODP Annual Programming

*   Annual State Pool Training Program
    State pool training schedule for event preparation & development

*   Local & Regional Elite Tournaments / College Showcases

    Strategically selected events

*   Continued Professional development of Staff

Consistent training and evaluation of our selected coaching staff
