This is an overview of Washington State 's US Youth Olympic Development Program (ODP), describing the programs for different age levels and providing information regarding player and parent commitments.
US Youth Soccer Olympic Developmental Program
The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) identifies and develops the outstanding youth soccer players in the state and presents them to the Regional Olympic Development Program. Regional ODP players, in turn, become candidates for the National Youth Teams.
What Are US Youth Soccer ODP Teams?
US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program teams are teams formed at the ODP State Team Program, (STP - identification, selection, tournaments, camp), the Region IV Olympic Development Program (camp - identification/selection, pools, and team competitions) and National Team Program (identification, selection, pools, training and travel teams). Each program or level represents the best players at various age groups.
Washington State Team Program (STP)
STP identifies the best youth players throughout the state in each age group and brings them together as a team to compete and further develop their talents. STP provides coaching at a high level of expertise and participation in the highest level of competition they are capable of obtaining through inter-state friendly jamborees, invitational tournaments and a Regional Camp.
During the 2007-2008 season, WSYSA will sponsor the following US Youth Soccer ODP teams:

Who Is Eligible?
Any age-appropriate youth living or registered in Washington state is eligible to try out for a STP Team. Out of State players may participate by providing the required paperwork from both National State Associations (the sending association, such as Oregon or Idaho and Washington state). STP is open to non-US Youth Soccer/WSYSA affiliate youth players who meet the registration/insurance requirements. Competition for available positions on the State teams is stiff and highly competitive.
Scouting Program:
The ODP State Staff, Scouts and Club Coaches will identify an initial pool of players. Players will be observed and evaluated during Washington State Premier. Open tryouts will be held for players that may not be participating in the state league, or are unaffiliated, who would not be identified during league/cup season. A pool of players will be selected by the ODP staff coaches from both the scouting program and the open tryout to continue in the STP process.
Keep an eye on our website for dates, times and location of events.

What Are Players' Responsibilities?
Once chosen, a State Team Program player is expected to be able to represent the State at all events scheduled by USYSA, Region IV and WSYSA. A player participates in activities that include exhibition matches, invitational tournaments and regional camps. For each activity, 18 players on each roster normally participate. If a player is not available, he or she is replaced from the development pool. Teams train and participate in various activities throughout the season (Jan – July) and at Regional Camps in July.
What About Parental Support?
Parents or guardians must understand that participation in tournaments and competitions is at the expense of the player insofar as travel, lodging and food are concerned. An exception to this occurs at the Regional and National levels, where some of the expense may be defrayed. All National Team practices and games are at the expense of USSF.
Additionally, parents and players need to understand the commitment to the Olympic Development Program during the State teams' season. STP players will need to communicate with both their STP coach and Club coach regarding conflicts if their team is qualified for the Snickers Regional Tournament.
General Program Schedule
Following State Cup, all teams participate in intensive training in preparation for Regional selection camp. Boys and girls committed season is March-July and includes travel to neighboring states for friendly games and tournaments.
In July, State Team players attend Regional Camps for possible selection to the Regional and National pools.
