Directors of Coaching Education
WSYSA Introduces New Directors of Coaching Education

Directors Chosen for Six WSYSA Regions

After reviewing the WSYSA Coaching Education program over the past three years, WSYSA Coaching Director, Dave Schumacher felt it was time to revamp the existing program. The demand of coaching education programs and the expansion of the WSYSA Director of Coaching (DOC) role into more player and club development programs required a new approach to the current program.

The current Coaching Education program is good; it aids in the development of our youth coaches statewide. Club & Association DOC's are included in the development of proposed coaching education programs. The National Youth Certificate Course offered in 2004 resulted in a 20% increase in the number of youth certificates courses offered this past summer. In addition, WSYSA offers a state hosted C License, which has allowed more than 300 to take their US Soccer C License locally. On the practical side, the new on-line application program has improved communication with the local host clubs and associations, which has helped reduce the number of cancellations at the local level by 15%.

However, each area in the state has specific needs and time frame requirements for coaching education. To address these needs, Schumacher has selected six highly qualified individuals who will be Regional Directors of Coaching Education, active from February through September of each calendar year. Their main goal will be to help address the specific educational needs within their Region. The Regions are delineated in this map.  They will also aid in locating and training educational staff coaches so that E and D License courses can be conducted in local areas. Communication between clubs within an association or area will be improved to facilitate clinic requests and reduce cancellations.

These staff will work in concert with the WSYSA Director of Coaching to improve the overall offering and implementation of the WSYSA coaching education program:
