    Washington Youth Soccer Announces Its 2008-2009 Volunteer Committee Chairs
    FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON (Tuesday, August 26) – Since inception, Washington Youth Soccer has relied on the work and dedication of volunteer State Committees Chairs in order to fulfill its mission of fostering the growth and development of youths through the sport of soccer. These positions are critical to the success of Washington Youth Soccer and therefore play a prominent role in the execution of state procedure and policy.

    Washington Youth Soccer Players Selected for 2008 Regional and National Teams
    FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON (Wednesday, August 6) – Proving that once again Washington Youth Soccer has some of the nation’s most elite talent, a total of 24 local Olympic Development Players (ODP) were recently named to the US Youth Soccer Region IV player pools and National player pools.

    Washington Youth Soccer ODP/ Sounders FC Training Schedule Announced

    The new Seattle Sounders FC and Washington  Youth Soccer have teamed up once again, this time to strengthen the development process for players participating in the Olympic Development Program (ODP).

    Training will begin in September at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, the new training center for the Seattle Sounders FC.

    Washington Youth Soccer is excited to launch our new online schedules and scores program with our 2008-2009 Premier and Youth Developmental "Fall State League" schedules. Teams will have the ability to enter game scores, field and game time information as well as reschedule games and email their opponents all online
    USA Women Win Olympic Gold
    BEIJING (August 21, 2008) -- An overtime goal from Carli Lloyd was all the US Women's National Team needed to successfully defend their Olympic Gold Medal with a 1-0 win over Brazil. Lloyd's game-winner came six minutes into the first overtime period and goalkeeper Hope Solo and the American defense did the rest, holding on for the shut out and the win.

    Ten Game Fall Season Set For Washington Youth Soccer’s State League
    FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON (Tuesday, August 19) – Washington Youth Soccer’s Board of Directors approved to change the Fall State League season format from fourteen games to ten games starting in September 2008. This new format will impact more than 4,000 players participating in the Washington State Premier League (WSPL) and Washington State Youth Development League (WSYDL), at the Girls Under-13 through Under-14 age groups and the Boys Under-13 through Under-19 age groups.
    Washington Youth Soccer Conducts Comprehensive Strategic Review with Plans for Future Success
    FEDERAL WAY, WASHINGTON (Tuesday, August 19) – Over the past forty years, Washington Youth Soccer has established itself as one of the most successful and progressive state youth soccer associations in the country. To continue this precedence and ensure positive strategic growth for the next forty plus years, Washington Youth Soccer has secured the assistance of Jan Glick & Associates, a management consulting company specializing in nonprofit organizations. Over the course of the project, Jan Glick & Associates will evaluate, revamp and augment Washington Youth Soccer’s current operating procedures, governing documents, infrastructure, and systems.

    Sounders FC Signs Celebrated Goalkeeper
    Washington native Kasey Keller returns home to play for MLS team 

    KIRKLAND, WASH.The Seattle Sounders FC signed American goalkeeper Kasey Keller to a multi-year contract, the team announced today. Keller is the second player to sign with the club, whose inaugural season begins in 2009. 
     
    Keller is a four-time World Cup participant and one of the first American goalkeepers to become a regular in the English Premier League. He was named U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year an unprecedented three times (1997, 1999 and 2005).
     
    “Kasey is arguably the top goalkeeper that the United States has ever produced,” said General Manager Adrian Hanauer. “He is a natural leader and those leadership qualities should be of enormous value to Sounders FC.”    

    Born in Olympia, Keller has played more than 600 matches for club and country. He has earned an American goalkeeper record of 102 international caps and 53 wins for USA, including 47 shutouts. In his only previous professional appearances in Seattle, Keller did not allow a goal in three international wins, including two at Qwest Field.
