2007 Seattle Sounders Kids Day
Kid's Day with the Seattle Sounders

Tuesday

More than 1,000 kids attended the Sixth Annual Kid’s Day with the Seattle Sounders on July 17, 2007. This fun-filled event was held at Starfire Sports Entertainment Complex and was attended by kids from many different day camps in the area.

proudtobeawesome.jpgThe festivities began with a pre-match fair that included poster making stations, a soccer ball juggling contest, water balloon toss competitions and other activities before the match. WSYSA staff members were there as well, taking photos, handing out pins, magnets and soccer ball tattoos to the kids.

An exhibition game was then played between the Seattle Sounders and the Tacoma Tide, with the Sounders being victorious by a score of 3-0!

At half-time, a few lucky kids had the opportunity to race Sammy the Sounder—Sammy looked like “a fish out of water” as he brought up the “tail end”. A couple of the Sounders players also took a few minutes to demonstrate their ball juggling abilities with the help of some of the campers and camp counselors.

Coach Brian Schmetzer also took time during the break to talk to Colin Rigby about eating a good breakfast, reading 50 pages a night, and getting to bed early. Oddly enough they didn't exactly agree about bedtime.

To top off the day, Transformer Action Figures were handed out and everyone had the opportunity to meet and ask for autographs from the Sounders players.  It was a great event, with the smiles on the children’s faces as proof of its success!
